Floating Staircases (Hill Climb) Washington State Convention Center
Thompson Metal Fab was a strategic partner for American Bridge on this huge expansion project for the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA. Despite most of the fabricated steel coming from overseas, TMF filled scope gap for American Bridge and supported the project in various capacity including retrofitting many of the columns on the project.
Our reputation with timely deliveries and transparent communication provided the opportunity to fabricate two new floating staircases, a signature item of this project. The stairs were delivered to the jobsite whole and installed as one pre-erected piece. At 65-ft long and 4-ft deep, the stringers are built more like a bridge girder and have a number of heavy CJP welds at each corner of the top and bottom flanges.
Project Highlights:
- Each staircase was 65 feet long, on the angle, and 4 feet deep.
- Each weighed a total of 75,000 lbs.
- In total, Thompson Metal Fab completed approximately $2,000,000 worth of support projects for American Bridge Company and this Washington State Convention Center expansion.
