FEATURED PROJECT: Alameda Corridor Railroad Bridge
Alameda Corridor Railroad Bridge
PROJECT OVERVEW
Thompson Metal Fab fabricated two steel railroad structures for the Alameda Corridor Light Rail Expansion Project: Sunset Avenue Underpass and Orange Avenue Underpass.
This project required our Fracture Critical Endorsement and Major Steel Bridge Certification through AISC.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Orange Avenue Underpass
-Fabricated steel framing components were fully assembled to verify proper fit up and interface between all component parts.
Sunset Avenue Underpass
-Fabricated steel plate girders 15 ft deep x 136 ft long, each girder weighing approximately 121 tons.
-Full penetration welds joined 1-1/4 inch thick web plates to 3-1/2 inch thick flange plates.
-TMF fabricated all framing components, which included: floor beams, diaphragms, lateral bracing, ballast plates, walkway plates, and miscellaneous connection members.
-Structure was fully assembled at TMF facility, then partially dismantled and painted with a three coat paint system and trucked directly to the jobsite in Los Angeles, California.
