FEATURED PROJECT: Navigation Lock Lift Gate – Lower Monumental Dam
Navigation Lock Lift Gate – Lower Monumental Dam
Project Overview
Thompson Metal Fab received the contract to shop fabricate a new Lift Gate for the Downstream Navigation Lock at Lower Monumental Dam for the US Army Corp of Engineers. This gate measures 88’ W x 84’ H with a 1-1/4” skin plate across an 81’ Radius. It was shipped in three (3) pieces and field welded into one complete assembly. The finished weight of the gate is roughly 1.5 Million Pounds. The new gate will replace the pre-existing gate.
Due to navigational lock closures on the Columbia River, an aggressive fabrication/delivery schedule was required. In TMF, the Owner and Contractor were treated to a fabricator with ample space and a highly qualified crew. In addition, all coatings were applied on-site through our Paint Department. With use of heavy-duty transportation dollies and the barge slip at our facility, we were able to simply roll the finished assemblies onto a barge for delivery.
Project Highlights
- Large shop space, production efficiency, and quality of manpower allows TMF to adhere to aggressive fabrication schedules for an on-time delivery
- The primer and vinyl painting system was completed at, and by, TMF
- The completed gate was barge transported to the jobsite by use of TMF’s Barge Slip
