PROJECT OVERVIEW
Thompson Metal Fab joined this $200M construction project at the Port of Alaska during the second phase of construction. The new facility was replacing the original terminal which was built in 1965, but had been significantly damaged in a 2018 earthquake.
TMF’s scope of work included fender panels, standoff brackets, outrigger beams, support hangers, and other miscellaneous items. The fenders were 14 feet wide by 35 feet long and weighed upwards of 70,000lbs each. The total project tipped the scales at 730 tons.
The project materials, including oversize loads, were shipped via truck from the Vancouver, WA Thompson Metal Fab facility to Pacific Pile & Marine’s yard in Seattle, WA. The loads were then transferred to PPM barge for delivery to Anchorage
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
• The structures were manufactured with low-temperature materials and welds.
• Plural coating system was applied by TMF.
• Fenders are foam filled, installed at TMF’s shop.
• TMF shop installed UHMW panels.
