HiLine Spooling Units
Thompson Metal Fab fabricates these spooling units for customers on Alaska’s North Slope and around the world. These units were designed to spool up electrical cable for drilling rigs. This allows the rig to plug into the electrical power grid via high-line power and eliminates the need for operating via generator.
These spooling units are designed to easily be moved using a forklift; note the pockets for forklift handling. The spool itself is hydraulically operated. TMF provides the 7.5 hp hydraulic motor and fixed displacement pump, all necessary hoses, and operating mechanisms required for these units to function.
Spooling units are completely customizable from the size of the inner drum to the color of the paint. Average inner drum diameter is 36 inches to 42 inches to meet the minimum bend radius for the cable needed.
These spooling units can hold well over 1,000 linear feet of cable. Supply and installation of the cable is typically managed post-delivery by the purchaser. The unit dimensions are 7’ wide x 12’4” long x 8’6” high and are manufactured to AWS D1.1 and AISC criteria. Delivery is available for additional cost.
