FEATURED PROJECT: WSDOT NE St. John’s Boulevard / SR500
NE St. John’s Boulevard / SR500
Two new bridges (part of an off-ramp/on-ramp system) were required as part of a WSDOT project where a set of traffic signals were removed at the intersection of State Route 500 and St. John’s Boulevard. These TMF fabricated bridges, one to the NE and one to the SE of the intersection, will allow St. John’s traffic to travel up and over SR 500.
Twelve custom bridge girders were fabricated by TMF with webs 9’-0” deep and flanges up to 3” THK. In addition, 24 cross frames were fabricated by TMF to join the girders together. In total, TMF fabricated roughly 853,000 LBS of steel for this project.
TMF’s scope of work also included shop assembly to assure proper fit-up in the field. Once the shop-assembled bridge was surveyed and approved by WSDOT, the bridge was disassembled and sent to TMF’s Coatings Department for sandblast, painting, and staged for shipping. TMF delivered the bridge girders to the field in lengths up to 110’- 0” long.
Project Highlights
- TMF fabricated (12) plate girders measuring over 9’ deep x 110’ long and flanges up to 3” THK
- Spans were fully assembled in TMF’s facility to assure fit-up at jobsite
- Girders were delivered to the jobsite in full lengths, for “just in time” erection
- Zero issues with field erection
- Approximately 850,000 LBS of fabricated steel bridge girders and cross frames.
